What if digital games are included in
the education curriculum?
In nowadays,
there are many types of games that are combined into learning activities for
schools. It can be said that incorporating games into the school and classroom
environment is no longer taboo. Due to the increasingly digital development of
the era, games have also spread rapidly online, known as online games. Online
games were also recognized and classified by the former Minister of Youth and
Sports, Imam Nahrawi, during his tenure as eSport (electronic sport) into the
educational curriculum. And this policy was continued by the current Minister
of Youth and Sports, Zainudin Amali. Of course, games have positive benefits,
especially in the pandemic period. Games can be used as an activity that can be
done to fill spare time. However, to be officially included in the educational
curriculum does not feel quite right.
If it happens, in my opinion, it is
likely to shift the priority of regular subjects. Students will be more attracted
to the game. When it is prohibited there are still many students who play games
even less if it is facilitated or included in the education curriculum. And as
I said before, the games are always developed, then the school tuitions may
increase and parents must facilitate their children so they are not left
behind.
I think it
is fair to say, I do not fully agree if digital games are included in the
curriculum because it is better to focus or improve the existing curriculum, in
my opinion. If it must include in the curriculum, it is enough used as
extracurricular only.
